Ministry seasons

So, as expected March was an insane month! There was busyness on so many different fronts, & many different things for me to grapple with. To be honest, if the rest of the year is anything like that dont think i'll cope!! But as I have been told many times, ministry has its seasons - sometimes its really busy, & other times you can slow down a bit.

But this brought me to thinking, I know it is sometimes good to be busy, to stop you from getting lazy etc, but what about times of reflection? Can being busy & having time to reflect on life ever go together? Or do you have to go through the busy periods, & then wait till its not so busy to actually sit down & think through things?

Can busyness & time of reflection ever go together??

Not sure if you can do both well. But when it's so busy you do need to reflect to see if you are on the right track.

I guess we should try and take time to reflect on each day daily to ensure you are heading in the right direction. Maybe a good time to do this is in your private meditation and Bible reading, prayer time??

Does this make sense.

love you mum

I like your questions Jess... I wreckon its pretty easy for people like you and me to feel bad or guilty if we're not busy all the time.

We feel if we're not doing something important than we must be wasting time. But I think we need to remember that we are human beings after all not human doings.

However there is a difference between being lazy and being reflective. So we've got to work that out too.

I like what our Sydney minister used to say: "We should spend more of our lives WASTING TIME with God, and those around us who are important to us." Not because we want to waste our lives, but because it is by just hanging out with people, with no agenda, that we learn to BE. Be loving, be patient, be listening, be a friend, be encouraging etc... The fruits of the Spirit are not a list of jobs, but character traits.

Anyway... I've gone off track a bit.

Thanks for the comments! Its provided me with lots to think about!!

Mum - I think that is a great point! It's when we are busy with stuff that we so easily start slipping isn't it!?! & what better way to think about it then over Gods word & talking to him! Thanks Mum!

Rach - yeah thats something I have been thinking lots about lately too. & it reminds me of what one of the guys at TLC said as well - that Christians are always so busy doing stuff, that non-christians see this & think, why would I want to live like that! Thanks Rach!
